In a remote town in Tunisia, 19-year-old Alyssa dreams of escaping the mundanity of her life. She has a rebellious spirit and a defiant urge to succeed. Discovering an art contest with an opportunity to live in Europe, she recruits her shy and artistic best friend, Mehdi, to enter, offering them both a chance at something more.
Their road trip to southern Tunisia in a stolen truck with Mehdi’s art piece reveals the struggles of a generation through the friends’ conflicts, joys, and unexpected detours. Their friendship is tested as the dangers of being on the road trigger past traumas. Determined to make their own way–to the art show and a better life–the pair will stop at nothing.
Where the Wind Comes From blends reality and imagination, using Alyssa’s fantasies and Mehdi’s art to explore grief, ambition, and adversity. Stirring performances and captivating cinematography pull at heartstrings, connecting viewers to both intimate and cultural struggles of these young artists.
