Singer-songwriter Vincent Laflamme (a powerful performance by Pierre-Paul Alain) can’t wait to get out on the road again with his band. While his life is complicated by a father dealing with the onset of dementia, Vincent is generally optimistic about the future. That is, until he is hit with some terrible news: he has been diagnosed with stage 4 tongue cancer. Getting into treatment immediately, the rigours of fighting cancer begin to affect his life and independence to the point that he has to accept the services of Renée, a lively volunteer driver with her own cancer story, and Mike, a kind and compassionate, if overworked, home nurse. As the treatments progress, Vincent’s struggles intensify and soon his bandmates drift away. In the midst of all this hardship, however, there is light in Vincent’s life with his two new friends, Mike and Renée, who encourage him to keep fighting. He just might beat this thing! An assured, moving, and inspiring drama produced and shot right here in Ottawa, What Now? is an intelligent, uplifting story about the indomitability of the human spirit.
