Acclaimed writer-director Sophie Dupuis’s (Chien de Garde, Underground) latest is a riveting, raucous drama of love, power, and manipulation set against the vivid backdrop of Montreal’s drag scene. Simon (another amazing performance by Théodore Pellerin) is a talented young makeup artist by day who performs outrageous, impressive drag routines at night. In the midst of his late-night partying and his obsession with performance, Simon’s intense nocturnal world is transformed when he meets Olivier, a fellow drag artist from France. Falling in love, they are soon working on exciting new routines together. As Olivier begins to become more demanding, Simon is also challenged by the arrival in town of his estranged mother, Claire, a famous opera singer. Not sure where he stands with his increasingly self-centred partner or his remote mother, both of whom seem to be playing power games, Simon must decide how best to navigate these strange, troubled waters of love, loyalty, and independence. Awarded Best Canadian Film at TIFF and named one of Canada’s Top Ten films of 2023.

La dernière production de la scénariste-réalisatrice acclamée Sophie Dupuis (Chien de Garde, Underground) est un drame fascinant et tapageur sur l’amour, le pouvoir et la manipulation, avec comme fond vivide la scène drag de Montréal. Simon (une autre excellente prestation de Théodore Pellerin) est un jeune maquilleur de talent le jour, qui réalise des routines de drag outrageuses et impressionnantes le soir. Entre faire la faire la fête jusqu’aux petites heures et son obsession pour son spectacle, Simon voit son le monde nocturne intense transformé lorsqu’il rencontre Olivier, un autre artiste drag qui vient de France. Ils tombent amoureux et commencent vite à travailler ensemble sur de nouvelles routines prometteuses. Alors qu’Olivier devient de plus en plus exigeant, Simon doit aussi faire face à l’arrivée de sa mère, Claire, une chanteuse d’opéra reconnue avec qui il n’a pas de lien. Ne sachant pas sur quel pied danser devant son partenaire toujours plus égocentrique ou sa mère éloignée, qui tous deux semblent jouer des jeux de manipulation, Simon doit décider comment naviguer de son mieux sur ces eaux étranges et troubles d’amour, de loyauté et d’indépendance. Titulaire du prix du meilleur film canadien au TIFF et nommé l’un des 10 meilleurs films du Canada de 2023.
